As the first President of the United States, clearly I knew how donors of the future would feel about the need for trust and transparency.

It’s quite interesting to see how the concept of “philanthropy” in general has developed in this fine country over time.

[On a separate note, I am a little shocked to find 1.6 million nonprofit organizations in our country now. My gosh, how do they all get fed with the proper resources to make them sustainable?]

So, noblest of organizations called “nonprofits,” before I move into the “intimacy” space of trusting you with the dollar bills showcasing my portrait, I’d love to know that you have healthy finances, clearly articulated impact, competent and innovative leaders, and good plans and policies to ensure some idea about your future direction.  While all of you are “glorious causes” indeed, I need you to earn my confidence.

BTW, the only thing that prevented me from being a savvy Internet researcher is 250 years.  So be present online in your finest uniforms and prepare to win the trust of the people.

Happy President’s Day.

Yours Truly,

George Washington
