Deploy Your Ants: The Ultimate Social Media Ambassadors

February 13, 2013

antzAlthough it’s a little dangerous, I love watching fire ants pouring out of their mound, springing into action with precision based on expert communication and the power of many.

Each ant is dedicated to her own job, executed in a way that contributes to the whole colony. She is action-bound in a second’s notice based on changing conditions or needs of the overall team.

If ants were people, I’m telling you, they would be social media power houses. Need some help rallying your worker ants to spread the message about your nonprofit’s campaign?

Here’s the message I sent to our staff at the Community Foundation of Sarasota County yesterday to get us all charged up about the 36-Hour Giving Challenge.

Feel free to repurpose it as you see fit for your internal audiences, like staff, board members and close volunteers who are good candidates for an esteemed (and fun) Social Media Ambassador position.

“As the days draw closer to the 36-Hour Giving Challenge, we need your help now more than ever to leverage the power of social media.

We need you because the BIGGEST way social media can influence our success is through networks of people.

You have friends who listen to you because they know you. You’re a real person, not a brand or an organization.

Would you like to be a social media ambassador for the Giving Challenge? Here’s what that means. (And you can do one of these things or all of them, depending on your comfort level.)

1.  “Like” us on Facebook.
[Insert your organization’s Facebook link here.]

2.  Follow us on Twitter.
[Insert your organization’s Twitter handle here.]

3.  Share the excitement about our participation in the Challenge.
We will send you things you can copy and paste to make it super easy. You can also post your own updates about the Challenge.

Are you in?  Let me know, and we will send you updates and sample messages to use now, during the Challenge and afterwards as we thank our supporters.

Thank you for considering being an ambassador and helping our community unleash it’s inner generosity for [organization]!”

Now it’s up to you to really follow through and motivate your colony to post on your behalf, making it easy for them too. March on with excitement and the power of many!
